Sophomore slumps

Why are we worse than last year? Similar team less a little bit of weaver and sissoko. Addition of Mongolian mike.

Obvious answer is guard play. No Elvis and Mali for most of the year. The Mali we have had is not the same as last years mali(yet?). We may miss Elvis more because he is cocky and confidently in scoring. Games where we were really good he usually played well. Hopefully he can return to that.

Holmes is definitely better but still not super physically strong. He had an incredible 3 week run. The last few games teams are being Uber physical with him and double teaming. He has not finished well with contact. I love daron but he is young and still developing. We r lucky to have him and he cares and is a good kid and will keep getting better. Maybe nba after junior year makes more sense

We have definitely lost our confidence and killer instinct since the vcu game. We need a couple of wins and continued development of Mali and Elvis to get this train turned around.

I love ag. He is a great person and recruits good kids. Parents love him. I don’t disagree about some of his in game coaching. Long runs by the opposing team comes to mind. Too much zone when it seems we r not really ready to do it well. Easy 3 s for the other team are infuriating. Maybe he is not himself after the tragedy he and his family went thru. We as fans do not really know. But I know I like ag and would prefer he has success and finished his career at Dayton.

The negativity on this board is painful to read. Let’s let the season play out to the end and see where we finish. I prefer to be behind the coaches and players. I would think they would appreciate our support, and probably perform better when we have their back. Let’s blow the roof off the arena Saturday and get ourselves back to playing well again. And see where things go in the a10 tourney.

Go flyers. Let’s finish this season on an upswing.

Shake it u

Give Mali back the keys and start Both Kobys. I watched the replay, Mali and Elvis though clearly compromised played there asses off. They are our dogs. Mali is better suited to start and I bet ya see a different more aggressive approach from him. If they can play 20 min let them be the leaders on this team…have to find heart and leadership. I would think with what Grant has gone thru these kids would play hard for him and hear his voice. Also Holmes though it wasn’t pretty fought to the end.
NEED to Stir the Pot make the change . RJ…Amzil and Mike can come off the bench. for a change of pace and bring some pressure. ENOUGH…let’s go…

3 Point Shooting

Was looking at the stats and our pct is around 32, which isn't great. Take away Koby and it's just around 30. We rank 247th among all D1 teams shooting the 3. We avg 34% at home and 30% away. Last year, we averaged 36% which would have put us in the top 75 at least. That difference in % has probably cost us several close games. It also makes it much more difficult to get back into a game when we are down. Koby is the only guy that you pretty much always feel comfortable taking a 3, and Smith I feel is the worst (he's 1-11), but wasn't very good last year from 3 either.

When I watch other teams, and not just top teams, I see a lot of guys working to get open for 3 and take them with confidence. They are actively looking to shoot 3s. When I watch us, we don't seem to actively look for the 3 unless Koby is in the game. Which of course, is allowing other teams to pack it in against DaRon and double-team him.

Not sure why we've regressed in shooting 3s, and unless there's significant improvement or a big roster makeover, not sure how that changes next year, but it seems critical that it does change. It's just the way college ball is played these days.

OT - Need Advice From Degenerates

In less than 2 weeks it will become legal for those of us in Ohio to make a bet for our Flyers putting a beat down on the opposition. I'll never become a big time better but I may want to put $10 on the Flyers winning the A-10 or beating SLU. Other than office pools and a single bet in Vegas I haven't done any sports betting which brings me to a couple of questions I have:

1. As I understand there will be 3 ways to bet, in the existing Ohio casinos, kiosks in local restaurants and bars and online apps. Is there any difference in those or is it a matter of convenience?

2. There are a lot of promotions to sign up on the apps now, most which offer something like $100 to the highest I've seen of $700 in account credits. How do these promos work? What is to stop me from signing up for the credits and cashing out shortly afterwards or after a few bets. Or can I just use these credits until I lose it all without risking any of my own money?

I understand this can be a topic that is upsetting to some people, but too bad 😜

Dayton’s at-large chances are not good, but they aren’t 0% either. At 52 in KenPom and 60 in NET, there is hope. For reference, last year at this time they were 75-90ish in both, and as we know were the last team out even with a late season loss to LaSalle.

Now, clearly the resume will not have the wins this year, but just based on rankings, Dayton has a chance to finish top 40 in analytics, even higher if they have some large victories. So until they are officially eliminated, here’s to hoping for bracket talk in March!!!

Meltdown

Look, we all know what has Put us in this spot. Roster and Injuries. We can disagree all we want about the open Scholly Or Richard and Baker as backup front guys. But we saw it last nite and in the several second half meltdowns we have seen this year . Holmes Played poorly but he was cooked..way to many min. He had no energy on D and got handled by mediocre post players. The boys being out really limits us. I know people fall in love with our length and size, but we have given up 40 and 44 pts in the second half of last 2 games. Sometimes size doesn’t matter.
So let’s get ready for Brooklyn, The Conference stinks, we have 4 games left against Good team, 2 SLU 1 VCU and let’s add perhaps Mason who’s big killed us last year. A loss to any other team left is a really bad loss.
Would like to see the staff put in some small ball….add pressure and run some sets for Brea and Elvis.
Now we have heard 6 times after losses from Grant and the team that it was a GOOD LEARNING EXPERIENCE…..hmmm… the Tos continue as do the second half meltdowns. Getting the depth back will really help, but quick adjustments by the staff need to happen more frequently.
‘Matt and I had a discussion , are we a good team? Other than Va Tech , we have been in games or had great halves. So it’s there. When the boys get back no reason not to win in Brooklyn.

Too timid….ATTACK!!!

The game Thursday is an absolute must win… a loss and at large is gone . State will have good wins in the ACC so a win can go a long way. Now….think about how timid we are playing. Shot clock violations. Mali not diving to the hole. Zero productivity from the 3 spot ( RJ/MIke 26 min , zero points and 2 rebounds combined. Holmes 34 min 4 rebounds. The whole atmosphere the last month starting with the coaches, yes Anthony , the media and the us the fans is about the injuries …wait until we are healthy… we have no rhythm. Well we all know the great coaches and players who would have none of that…now it’s all true but whining about it gets you where we are today. the Team and coaches need to sell out Thursday, Crash the boards and move and cut with purpose. Screw that there legs are tired blah blah blah. Wake the F….k up and attack… THAT was Pure Horseshit today. Lousy whoas me attitude. wait till Brea is back…wait till Mike gains some weight…oh they are double teaming Deron…Mali is not ready yet. RJ doesn’t score but he plays good D..bunch of nonsense …they stunk today and They backed down against UNLV… boys the culture right now is broken.
41 points….My God.

Deuce

Obi and DaRon are 2 different players, but they are alike for us observers in that each game we were and are able to see a new stage in their development or a small nuances in their games revealed, which makes it so interesting and exciting for us Flyer fans.

Last game we once again saw his absolutely blazing speed for a big man. It's a quality you don't see everyday in the game for a frontcourt player.

That play on the break he made where he split two defenders, spun 360 degrees, and threw down a dunk, was one of the greatest individual plays I've ever seen by a Flyer. It was an amazing play by one of our guys. It would be great if someone could post a link with that play on this thread.

Truly enjoy and appreciate watching this guy expand his shooting range, ball handling and ambition on the court.

The athletic department should be promoting him often because he is a special talent.

We aren't going to see his talent fully unfold for a few years when he is at the next level.

Let's hope we can get all our guys back to surround this flowering college basketball star with as much supporting talent as is possible. He deserves it.
