Meet N Greet Tonight

Has anyone else stopped by the meet n greets with the players tonight? Hope those that do have as good an experience as I did.

I went up to Tipp and met Javon and Zimi. Both were so positive even after this and want to finish out the season strong. Javon was gracious enough to sign my Bennett jersey, I’m very appreciative. Zimi couldn’t have been a nicer person, I know he doesn’t play much but you can tell he’s happy to be here.

We’ve got good kids in the program and they represent the program with class.

1984 Elite Eight retrospective

Great piece by David Jablonski of The DDN on the 1984 Elite Eight team:

Game Pace

Our deliberate pace has been noted on numerous occasions and even criticized, but at the end of the year when the tournaments are played, that more deliberate style might prove to be very favorable since those tournament games are more often half court games

I said last night our precision like execution reminded me of the outstanding Donoher coached teams of the 80s. Very impressive disciplined spacing, execution, shot selection and defense. This team is kind of undersized like those teams as well.

What if…

Just watched UVa-Clemson. UVA is trying to build a resume to get a tournament bid, not guaranteed for them at this time.

But what if

Daron Holmes was recruited by UVa out of HS, and was in his top schools at decision time.

What if Daron picked UVa:
Does Daron have the college career he has currently?
Does he have the development to selected in the NBA draft?

This is the thing about recruiting. The majors are just collecting bodies. At least at Dayton, you get opportunities earlier.
While there is a sexiness to the majors, players have a better chance to succeed at Dayton.

Hard to convince high school stars of this.

2023 Recruits

So it’s early, but I’ve now seen two articles in the last month mentioning Dayton with interest in 2023 guard Marvel Allen, out of Wellington high school in Florida.

“A 6-foot-3 combo guard, who's expected to grow another three inches, Allen already has made a name for himself on the travel circuit. He currently holds a Division I offer from South Florida, with others, including Central Florida, Dayton and Oklahoma State, showing interest.”

From the article in the first tweet:

“Freshman guard Marvel Allen led the Wolverines with 19 points. Dayton is among the schools already interested in the ninth-grader.”
