Welcome to the 4th installment of The War Room for 2020. As always, I'll begin this session with the ground rules for those that may be new. Everything that is reported in The War Room must stay in The War Room. Sometimes the info is sensitive enough that it simply doesn't need to be passed on beyond the doors of this message board thread.

This is a special feature for our subscribers only. The reason why it is posted on the premium board is because that's the only way to ensure that the info stays exclusive to Dayton Flyer fans. Thanks for your cooperation.

Without further ado, here it is.... The 4th edition of the War Room for 2020!

GETTING CLOSE?

As I said last week on our Red and Blue Forum, the Dayton Flyers are heavily involved with Michigan big man transfer Colin Castleton. I’ve traded some texts with him, but has been keeping things close to the vest—as do most players that are seeking a transfer.

Castleton had a virtual meeting with the staff last Saturday and things went reportedly well. Colin was impressed with the pitch and saw potential fit with the style of play and his skillset. The real big question is would be able to defend guards in Dayton’s switching defense.

Castleton played in 25 games as a sophomore and shot 54% from the field. Oddly enough, he showed a sweet stroke in high school from three-point range, but is 0-9 from the perimeter in his two seasons. It should be noted Anthony Grant was the one that has led Castleton’s recruitment to Dayton from the beginning. I think that speaks volumes to Dayton’s level of interest in him and I would expect him to become more perimeter-oriented at UD opposed to the interior player Michigan earmarked him for.

From what I am being told right now, he could be down to a pair of schools and Dayton is one of them. The other school said to be up there as a finalist is the Maryland Terrapins. There’s still some angst, though, that if Florida misses out on some of their key targets that they could get more involved. His family is Gators fans. Hopefully, a rumored decision coming soon is sooner rather than later.

O CANADA

Another name I have beginning to hear a lot of buzz around is Northeastern graduate transfer Max Boursiquot. The Ottawa native started 26 games for the Huskies this season, averaging 9.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. He was 10-28 from three-point range, for 35.7% and 56.9% from the floor (120-211).

Because of injuries, he played more of the five this season and showed he could hold his own—both on offensively and defensively. He plays physical on both ends of the floor and was really coming into his own the last dozen or so games of the season (Nearly 12 points and 60% from the floor).

He played the four two seasons ago and missed the previous season because of a hip injury and received a redshirt. Like Castleton, the question is can he switch 1-4 on defense. I’ve watched some video on him and the thing that impresses me most is he is usually a step ahead of the offensive guy he is guarding and also that he’s a solid help defender.

The only other team I’ve been able to uncover that has reached out to him so far is California. I’ve heard Coach Slo is the lead recruiter for him and I’ve been told they want to keep this one quiet so .. a big emphasis on our rule of whatever is said in the War Room, needs to stay in the War Room please.

HALF NELSON

Here’s the story I’ve heard with Seton Hall transfer Anthony Nelson. He has been contacted by schools at different levels, and Dayton was omitted from the list that Jon Rothstein published on Friday.

When I asked my sources, the answers I got were direct and one and the same. That tweet included the list of schools that had reached out to Anthony Nelson. The Flyers were likely not included because there has been no direct contact with Anthony, but Nelson’s camp has indeed reached out to Dayton.

The Flyers are listening because their evaluation of him out of high school was high enough that they were hoping for a commitment. While some of you are against Dayton bringing in Nelson, I’ve always reminded you to trust the coaching staff on their evaluation.

They may not be totally sold on bringing him in this time around yet, but the thought of him sitting behind and being tutored by Chatman and Crutcher is attractive while he sits out a year. I’m told Rhode Island could be a big player in his recruitment so even if he doesn’t end up at UD, he could end up in the A10.

KEEP AN EYE ON

While Anthony Nelson’s recruitment was casted as informal, I would say the next couple of guys to keep an eye on as advanced exploratory. That means that the staff has likely watched plenty of video on them and are getting to know these prospects and see if there is a fit within the Dayton program.

First guy is Utah Valley graduate transfer Casdon Jardine. He’s a 6-7 forward that can shoot the three ball (57-146, 39%) and averaged 10.1. Originally from Idaho, he transferred from Boise State to Utah Valley and sat out the 2018-2019 season.

The second is Northwestern State 6-6 forward Chudier Bile. He averaged 14.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game and was 35-93 from three (37.6%).

I’ve been told that with the emphasis on analytics with this staff, Jardine is a very attractive option for the Flyers. One pause- Jardine is married to a former Utah Valley cheerleader, so the move to the Midwest may be a difficult one to talk his wife into. Bile started out from Bradley, so he’s been in the Midwest before. The staff will evaluate both of their fits on and off the court as they get to know the two of them. Both would be immediately eligible with one year remaining. Just two more to keep a close eye on for now.

CLOSING

That does it for this edition of the War Room! A formal welcome to the new subscribers and a thank you to you long, loyal subscribers.
