There has been a lot of talk on the board about how we really need a PG in 2020 and how certain players can't play PG. Personally, I disagree with both.

Why can't Cohill and Frazier play PG? They both have the handle to play PG. They both have the quickness and ability to get into the paint to play PG. Also, some of our best PG's weren't true PG's in HS before they came to UD.

For me, the main job of a PG is bringing the ball up the court and getting the team in the right set in a quick manner. You don't want a PG who struggles to get it up the court and doesn't get the team in the right set until there are only 15 seconds left on the shot clock.

When I watch Cohill and Frazer play, I see two players who could definitly play PG for us.

Of the two, I actually think Frazier could be a really good PG. He doesn't look the part of a traditional PG, but I think he has all of the skills of a traditional PG. He has a good handle, he has good quickness, he plays at different speeds, he can get into the paint, and he is a good shoter.

Also, I think the need for a tradional PG is lessened on our team, because of the number of players we have who are good passers/ball handlers.

If you have a team full of spot up shooters and big athletes, you need a true PG who can penetrate and kick the ball outside to a spot up shooter or penetrate and drop if off to a big or a 3/4 who is moving to the hoop.

Our coaching staff has done an amazing job of bringing in a bunch of players who can handle and pass the ball at an above average level for their position. That means they can share in the "PG duties" and take advantages of mismatches. It also means our PG doesn't have to do a ton of dribbling or creating for himself and others.

I think we need a PG in 2020 or 2021, but I don't think we have to get one in 2020. I want us to get the best one possible. If it is 2021, great. He will have a ton of help. He will have other players who can play PG. He will have a great team around him, so he won't have a lot of pressure or focus (by other teams) put on him. He won't have a lot of competion at PG, so we will probably be able to get a better recruit. Plus, we have had a lot of PG's play a lot and even start as true freshmen.
