I know many on here don't care, but for those that do, I spoke with someone inside the program a couple weeks back about new uniforms.
Typically, Dayton gets a new set every 2 years. That would mean this would be the year for new threads. Due to COVID, they'll be getting them, just maybe not in time for the season to start.
As far as design:
"The aim is to focus on, 'what do 13-17 year olds want?' You build your strategy around that. (Uniform colors , logos etc ). There’s always going to be elements around alums of different ages and generations, sometimes you can include those elements (eg Colombia Blue), sometimes you can’t. People who graduated in the 2000s are more partial to some items , 1990s , 1980s etc. you're never going to hit on everything. But if we focus on the next generation of recruits - they create a product on the court and the desired outcome, winning at a high level."
They take the players' opinions, coach, and then typically the admins just agree to what is wanted from what he says.
Later in our conversation, he confirms the importance of nice uniforms to attract these recruits as it's a brand. Kids want to play for the teams that get the good stuff.
When asked about how we've had the same template offered to us as high school teams like Northmont. He was surprised to hear that, but nonetheless, it's what's offered by Nike. If you win a bunch, you end up getting offered additional sets. When asked what effect last year had, he replied, "Not this year- but that would be the goal to build the program to that kind of level... Unfortunately Dayton didn’t have the success it needed to have the past couple decades, I don’t know the ins and outs of xaviers uniform agreements (I asked how they were able to get custom ones in the A10), but... they got it done when we weren’t."
Finally, he did leave a glimmer of hope for the return of Colombia Blue saying, "There's always a chance."
