Did not see the game on TV but taped it. Watched it twice and here are my thoughts.
1) This is one incredible DEFENSIVE team. I doubt that there has been a Dayton team that has literally shut down the opposition like we have the last three games (50, 44 and 37 points). I realize these were not 3 powerful offenses but I can not remember a Dayton team shutting down opponents like they have recently.
I compare that to other teams in the top 25 who regularly give up big point totals to mediocre teams(KY gave up 84 to a weak Tennessee team). There is no way Tennessee would score 84 on us. Archie has this team playing as one of the top 10 defenses in the country right now. They are really fun to watch. KD, CC, SS and SM are incredible defensive players.
2) I am so impressed with John Crosby and how he has developed. I can not believe I am saying this but we loose nothing when he is in now is place of Scoochie. This is not a prediction but I see him playing more minutes. Don't know where more minutes will come from but it will help Scoochie save his body for later in the year.
3) Big Steve is looking better and better on the defensive end. I believe that when he comes in, he changes the whole defense with his shot blocking. He also made great offensive plays by clearing the lane of defenders with his body that led to easy lay-ups. Archie indicated that the plan going forward was to improve his offensive production which will significantly help out our overall offence by opening up for mid range shots.
If we keep developing team defense like we have, we will be hard to beat...even on nights where we don't shoot well.
