Dear Season Ticket Holder,
As I have done throughout the pandemic, I want to continue to provide insight into our current thinking as we work to host fans at UD Arena as safely as possible this season. Regrettably, we still find ourselves amidst COVID challenges to the basketball season. This week, more than a dozen teams had games postponed or canceled due to COVID.
Our basketball programs are fully vaccinated, but we have seen the ‘breakthrough’ cases locally and around the country. As of this writing, we remain on track for the traditional UD Arena experience, with full attendance, but we acknowledge the uncertainty with COVID remains very real. As has been the case throughout the pandemic, our protocols and requirements are subject to change if conditions on campus or our community change.
We must intentionally balance the same imperatives, protecting the health and safety of our team and our community, while ensuring the sustainability of our basketball program and athletic department.
Face Coverings
We continue to recommend fans wear a face covering throughout their time in UD Arena, regardless of vaccination status. In large venues, enforcement of mask requirements is very difficult and places our staff and fans in challenging positions, particularly regarding interpretations related to removing face coverings while eating and drinking. It is our hope that fans strongly consider wearing a face covering.
Vaccines and testing for entry
The University continues to be an advocate for the vaccine as the best defense against the spread of the disease and the most optimal path for a quality UD Arena basketball experience. We strongly encourage fans to help keep our campus and community safe by being fully vaccinated (including boosters) as quickly as possible.
As we shared before the season, because of the many practical operating challenges and philosophical differences, we hope to avoid requiring proof of vaccination or a negative test for entry throughout the season. However, as I mentioned above, our protocols and requirements are subject to change if it is determined it is the only sustainable path forward to achieve our imperatives.
TicketExchange Resale Options and staying home if you should
We definitely understand there are families dealing with health issues or other situations where being at UD Arena threatens their health. We strongly recommend they stay home and offer or sell tickets to family and friends. We do not want you or any family to choose between their health or forgoing their tickets.
Anyone who feels uncomfortable attending games at UD Arena or cannot otherwise attend games for any reason is encouraged to resell their tickets through our official, secure TicketExchange portal. The instructions for TicketExchange can be found at https://daytonflyers.com/sports/2020/11/12/digital-ticketing-guide.aspx. You also can contact our ticket office for a personal tutorial on the process.
Digital Ticketing
While hopefully not necessary, digital ticketing continues to provide us the ability to pivot and flex for any modified or changed games due to COVID issues.
My hope is that together we can meet the two requirements, protecting the health and safety of our community and ensuring the success of our basketball program.
Please feel free to give us a call at (937) 229-4433 or email us at FlyerTickets@udayton.edu.
We thank you in advance for your patience and assistance as we navigate this together.
