Kostas

Matt: Can you change the heading on this thread? Kostas does have a name. His name might be difficult to write or even worse to pronounce, but referring to him as the "Greek Kid" is, in my view, kind of disrespectful. Hopefully he is going to be around for a while, so we should show him some love.

Disrespectful? o_O

I thought I was only one who was thinking this

Pretty awful interview, but I want to point out Kostas' response at the 2:30 mark in the video. He's asked what role he looks to play in college. His response is the 1-4 positions. It would seem to me that the 1 would include the point guard position. NOT saying he's going to play the 1, but it seems he would be comfortable there.

Another reason why we should turn Kostas into a 1 guard. If he is ANYTHING like his brother, which he is said to be, WHY would we not try and do this with him?

I challenge you all to think outside the box and not to be so traditional in the "we need a true point guard" mentality.

It's not us you need to convince. We don't make those decisions. All we do is talk about it.

I don't know about Kostas as a PG, but we do seem to have a collection of bigger guys that can handle the ball reasonably well. Mikesell, Svoboda, Kostas, X occasionally. Having a big occasionally bring the ball up could take some pressure off, especially if DD ends up our starting PG.

Why not as a PG?

I'm totally against rushing him into the Point just because we might need him to play the point. If the staff thinks he can do it from day one then that's fine. I just think letting him develop into a college player at whatever position seems most natural to him is a better start. The point carries the biggest responsibility and the most pressure and I don't think it's fair to ask him to take on that burden as a freshman. If I understood what Coach Grant has been saying about what he wants to do I can easily see all but Cunningham, Pierce, and Miller pushing the ball up when they get a rebound anyways.

He's not a PG. Maybe he will be someday, but he isn't one now. He had a lot of things he needs to work on and improve. Playing PG isn't one of those things right now.

A lot of people use "point forwards" that will take turns bringing the ball down. He can do that a lot without having to mold him into a full-fleged PG.

It's not really needed anymore. Posted this a while back. He'll surely be a point forward and bring the ball up plenty. However, that won't really create the mismatch that I was alluding to. Imagine a 7' point guard matched up with a 6' point guard. It'd be like Lebron vs IT lol.
