Davidson Thread (02/24/2017)

That was a great win, on the road, against a very well-coached and disciplined team who was geared up and determined to play their best game against us. The only disappointing thing was we didn't play the killer defense which the guys brought out at about the 5 minute mark.

The seniors were tremendous.
Pollard was unstoppable in the latter part of the game.
Scoochie delivered one of the great clutch performances by a Flyer in recent memory.
Charles played an outstanding all around game.
Kyle led the defense and hit a huge three.
Down thirteen with 7 minutes left.
What a memorable game it turned out to be.

Sets up next Wednesday for all the marbles on senior night.
This team is special.

I watched most of the first half and then overtime. I just can't watch away games when we are playing bad ;). Scoochie was pretty bad in the first half, but he was huge when it counted. Just like the seniors almost always are.

We played pretty poorly, but we were good enough to get the win. I just wish we could put together a complete game.

I think crosby had a nice roll in that comeback. Scooch was off in regulation. Crosby came in and steadied the ship, scored some points. Didn't force anything. Didn't turn it over. And then handed the keys back to scoochie with the deficit cut in half. Pollard saved our butts the last five minutes on both sides of the ball. Scoochie won overtime. Kyle and Cooke played strong d all around. What a game. Down 10 with 5:30 to go. Insane.

i love ya Nahz, but that's a big statement.
Crosby was great from the 7 or so mark to the under 4 timout. Came in after scooch had the chsrge. Helped spark the come back
He's played well in the last 4-5 games. It seems like he might be kind figuring it out. I was really questioning whether he had it as a player, but I was always hoping for the best. Give him a whole lot of credit for sticking with it. If he can just play solid and make good decisions, he could make a very important contribution to this team in the stretch run.

What a gutty comeback win. Pollard made alllll kinds of winning plays late in the second half. Diving for loose balls. Selling out denying post passes. Double teaming and stealing balls. Great help defense. Great denial of Aldridge. He willed us to overtime and Scoochie took over from there.

Pollard just carried us and willed the win. Or at least the tie the last five minutes. Shut down Aldridge. Took it to the rack. Scored. Rebounded. Just awesome. Mackillop had a big head scratcher moment when he left their big man in with four fouls. Then let him foul out with I think 10 to go. Crazy. Pollard had no one who could really guard him after that. I am gonna miss these seniors. Just huge cajones.

IIRC, he made an unofficial visit to Dayton, and then committed to Davidson shortly thereafter

Dayton offered him late, he visited Davidson and committed right after. Never made it to UD for a visit. He was on the hot board we put up.

85,

Watched the replay. It was even better the second time! The final 8 minutes of regulation was Kendall Pollard's finest hour as a Flyer. As others have pointed out, he willed that overtime to set the table for Scoochie. These seniors are just flat-out winners. We are so blessed as fans.
He was not only killing it offensively, but he was tenacious defensively and on the boards.

Can someone find the replay of the game on the ESPN app. Cannot locate it. Thanks.

The other thing forgotten about the late 13-2 run in regulation... Jack Gibbs missing both free throws with a two-point lead with 2:50 left in regulation.
did Gibbs ever come out of the game? he was getting physically beat up and never got to rest. no wonder his shots weren't falling. gotta have legs. i think our depth is something that can make a difference in the dance. that and sam miller's weird hands.

Gibbs and Aldridge played the full 45 minutes each, I think. (And didn't Gibbs only make 2/3 when he was fouled on a 3 not long before missing those two?) Had to have made a difference down the stretch. No coincidence that Scoochie took advantage of Gibbs' tired legs in OT as well. In fact, I think it was Scoochie's second 3 where Aldridge hedged, and as he tried to recover, ran into Gibbs, effectively screening his own guy and leaving Scoochie that much more room - tired legs lead to slower defensive rotation.

As an aside, a fresh Scoochie came in and banged a 3 in the George Mason game as well right as Mason was bouncing back from our 20-0 run. More minutes for Crosby = fresher Scoochie, something we will need. Our rested PG is draining 3s and making backdoor layups, a tired Gibbs is missing key FTs and a potential game-winner.

Even the fans on their board said Gibbs and Aldridge wore out at the end,as both played the whole 45 minutes and their shots seemed short at the end. It seemed like they hit all their threes but at the end of the night thanks to Scoochie's three straight in overtime we actually outshot them from the arc. Also when was the last time Dayton shot 40+ free throws on the road?Davidson gets a lot of milage out of just two players but we have a whole team and that will usually win you the game.Real gut check game just wish we could figure out how to stop those two and don't know if I want to see them early in the A Ten tournament
