Lost to UC 3-1 and never in the match for 3 of 4 sets. No answer for Thompson and Malon but more to the point, the team was poorly-prepared for the level of play offered by UC. Not because of coaching or talent that someone else can judge but rather IMO the competition or lack of same in conference play. One of the significant drawbacks to participation in a junior league as the A-10, in addition to the recruiting disadvantage, is that the good UD athletic teams play on a regular basis against distinctly inferior level of competition. So, what was WVB learning while they clobbered the likes of Lasalle and GW
3-0 ?
As an individual or as a team, the essence of performance improvement is to engage in deliberate practice ( “What does Yo Yo Ma, Wayne Gretzky, and a renown neurosurgeon have in common?” ) Malcolm Gladwell in Outliers. Deliberate practice that tests one on a regular basis to deliver excellence. The A-10 for the most part does not provide that opportunity.
