Ryan kind of flies under the radar with all the talent we have on this year’s team, but he has been *awesome* for us this year. I remember the coach who recruited him predicted he’d be an all time fan favorite by the time he left UD. He was right.
He has scored for us when we needed, passes the ball well, has come up with big rebounds (career high 14 today against UMass). His defense has been quietly outstanding.
Down the stretch agains Kansas, we went to him over and over and over and he delivered with I think 9 points in the overtime period.
Today against UMass, he guarded the 2/3/4/5 positions at different times of the game and did a darn good job with all his assignments. After Obi went down, we slid him over to guard the 4, and he did a fine job against Tre Mitchell. One possession with about 6 minutes to go, he moved Mitchell about 8 feet farther out of the post that’s he was trying to set up. They dumped the ball in to him, and Ryan promptly stole it from him and we went the other way. This is a guy playing on two surgically repaired hips, pushing a top-100 freshman away from the rim and then taking the ball.
He’s done it all for us this year, and it’s been a pleasure to watch.
