Polls are fun and can spark some discussion.
Gaines is a pretty intriguing player. As we know, he was injured and got out of a boot for a stress fracture not too long ago, which limited his exposure some. He’s very skinny but is über athletic as well. Some of his highlight dunks are nuts. Looks to have very long arms, is described as a streaky shooter, looks raw with oodles of potential. Some stuff on the internet describes him as a “future Laker.”
Stuff in our favor: we were his first official visit. He followed 4 of our guys on social media during the visit (Obi, Rodney - who went to Lithonia as well, Jalen, and Dwayne). He changed his Instagram profile picture to a shot of him wearing Flyer gear. From the looks of a few of the photos, his parents came with him (moms love Coach Grant).
Going against UD: he has P5 offers from a B1G school with a former NBA player and head coach at the helm, and a Big XII school in Texas (Dayton is 4+ hours closer to Atlanta than Fort Worth is, though). He hasn’t decided yet, to my knowledge. He could take his time and look to blow up more, since he was hurt and might have garnered better offers. We play in the A10.
Anyway, imma be optimistic and vote yes. To @nwflyer ‘s point in the other thread, the reason to not wait is because someone else might snag your spot. If he takes his time, we almost have to move on another point guard, and that guy might jump at a Dayton offer, and the spot is gone. Even if UD wants Gaines more than say, Kam Farris, if Farris is ready to commit, they probably have to take him if they don’t know what/when Gaines is going to decide. Hopefully he talks it over, gets an edit made, and calls up AG with the good news.
