Emotions of course run high on a day like this. We are all grateful for the past 4 years and the accomplishments of the Great Seniors and also the good work by Archie and his staff . Let me start with Archie, terrific young man and coach who helped make Dayton a name everyone connected with College basketball respected.. he clearly raised our National reputation and to his credit built a personal resume that led him to Indiana. I knew there would be a time we would lose him and like all of us would have liked to see this highly anticipated class come in. There are as we see in today's world very Few... Mark Fews, Archie obliviously saw Dayton as a stepping stone , many will say how can you turn Indiana down, he has to take that job. Well as a Dayton man I disagree, I think Archie leaving now knowing he could leave the program in jeopardy by losing this class was disappointing. I now have no feeling for him and won't pay any attention to Indiana unless we get a chance to kick his ass. Ok deep breath let it go. I am now excited that Neil and Dennis have an opportunity to take UD to that next level. Find and or create a better conference , renovate or build a new arena and bring in a staff that wants to be here for a long time. I hope we put a Dayton man on the bench as an assistant and groom the likes of the Devin Olivers and Kyle Davis to one day sit onthat bench . Gonzaga and Xavier show us what can be done . In a few hours one of them will head to the Final four. One has a coach in his 18 th year, who didn't run and take that Better Job and the other a former player who said, I think X is on the same level as Indiana why would I go there? So a lot of work to be done , but in today's landscape it can be done. So let's get a coach who really means it when he talks , doesn't bore us or insult us with coach speak, doesn't complain about playing on Friday nite and is open minded about different styles of play . So was that one last shot at Archie .... you bet it was... were no damn stepping stone!
