As I watch the annual NCAA selection show getting ready to take place I see us nowhere to be found and yet once again see X Gonzaga St. Mary's Wichita St all already in the tournament and have great overall records. Dayton has by far the longest history compared to those schools as we all know the stat about Dayton winning more games in the 50's and sixties than any team in the country. Those other teams on the other hand had zero basketball reputation at all until the 80's or even later concerning Gonzaga and the Gaels.I just wonder where we went off the rails as even to this day with all the good success we've had recently, we still can't get the top recruits to give us a look while all the other schools have been able to get numerous NBA caliber and All American players to want to play there. Is it their ability to hire great coaches that prefer to stay where there at and dominate their conferences? I don't know, I look at Dayton and we seem to have as much or more to offer good players than any of those schools yet even with the last four years of great success our coach leaves and it's like those seasons didn't even happen. We've quickly dropped out of the loop of college basketball and not being in a P5 or even B.East conference makes it twice as tough to recover.With more than 70 million in renovations happening and another 13,000 fans a game attendance, at the very least we should dominate this lousy conference like those schools do.I hate to think we may be an also ran as compared to those programs but at the moment we are and it's tough to think about.
