Announced today the California governor has signed the bill allowing student athletes to get monetary benefit from their likeness or endorsements .Doesn't go into effect till 2023 but what a Pandora's box that seems to be opening.
What monitors will be involved or will it be the wild west where anything goes? Seems now that all the underhanded boosters who've been trying to hide their payoffs to certain recruits will now be open and evidently legal to offer players cash for endorsing car dealerships, grocery stores or get a percentage of jerseys sold.
Could we eventually see Dayton players hocking cars or furniture on television? We all know the big time P5 schools will totally benefit from this, not mid majors who don't have the money to compete with the big boys.
NCAA says this won't stand and California schools will be barred from any national tournaments. Guess we'll see what happens in a couple of years as other states may join in with California. Then is the NCAA going to ban all the states that pass a bill similar to what was signed yesterday?
