DONOHER CENTER GETTING COMPLETE MAKEOVER
The $4-million dollar renovation to modernize the Donoher Center at the University of Dayton Arena kicked off this April

DAYTON, Ohio – The Donoher Basketball Center at the University of Dayton Arena is undergoing a $4-million dollar upgrade. The Donoher Center is the home of the UD men's basketball team that advanced to the Elite Eight® in 2014 and its women's basketball team that has made six consecutive NCAA appearances and advanced to the Elite Eight® in 2015. The renovation began this April and will be finalized in October.

"The University of Dayton Division of Athletics is experiencing unprecedented success in athletics competition and in the classroom. It's a direct correlation of our substantial investments in facilities where our student-athletes compete and train," said Tim Wabler, vice president and director of athletics.

The Donoher Center is the second of three major University of Dayton Division of Athletics initiatives that will continue to elevate its nationally-prominent athletics programs.

In December 2014, Dayton completed the first of three major facility renovations— the Olsen Athletics Performance Center, a multimillion-dollar, 10,000-square-foot facility that includes state-of-the-art equipment, restrooms, storage closets, sound system, and nutrition bar. It allows UD student-athletes access to the best strength and conditioning development, as well as proper nutrition.

The 1,800-square-foot basketball weight room at the Donoher Center was relocated to this facility. The move made way for the next initiative which is the renovation of the Donoher Center. The Center was an addition to University of Dayton Arena in 1998 and is approximately 22,000 square feet. It primarily houses men's and women's basketball and support areas, a football locker room, laundry, storage and training areas for all three sports.

This second initiative is a $4-million dollar overhaul that includes upgrades to technology, locker rooms and meeting spaces for the Flyer men's and women's basketball programs.

"We are really excited about the new Donoher Basketball Center renovation," Dayton Men's Head Basketball Coach Archie Miller said. "It's going to be one of the best basketball compounds that there is in college basketball. It really speaks to the University's commitment to a winning culture, from (President) Dr. Curran and Tim Wabler on down."

The renovation includes reconfiguration of the existing building layout to expand and update men's and women's basketball areas and training support spaces. New locker rooms, lounge areas, hydrotherapy and support spaces are key new features that will be added.

"The renovation to the Donoher Center is another example of our administration's commitment to our nationally-recognized basketball program," said Dayton Head Women's Basketball Coach Jim Jabir. "Under Tim Wabler's leadership our program continues to make strides. Having a state-of-the-art locker room will be a great aid in recruiting for years to come."

The Donoher Center renovation project is being 100 percent funded by a limited number of donors.

The third initiative of the UD athletics department initiative is the continued renovation of the Frericks Center. A new volleyball team room, enhanced volleyball game-day and practice environments, an interactive entry way and atrium, plus remodeled offices are part of the plan. Construction has begun and will be completed by September 2015.

In the past 15 years, the on-campus home for every Flyer team has been either newly constructed or renovated — Baujan Field (soccer), Frericks Center (volleyball), Graul Tennis Complex (tennis), UD Softball Stadium (softball), Woerner Field at Time Warner Cable Stadium (baseball) and University of Dayton Arena (basketball) – as well as the Riggs Academic Center.
