I had a chance to sit behind the Flyer's bench for the first couple of games, which I have never had to opportunity to do before. Here are a few things I saw.

It's apparent that Scoochie is the one who has emerged as the go to guy at the end of games. He has been our most valuable player in the tournament thus far. John Crosby needs to grow up quickly, so Scooch doesn't get worn out during the conference season. John played fairly well in the few minutes he was in there, but I don't think the staff feels he is ready to play in the second halves of these highly competitive and critical early season games.

Darrel has lost a lot of his confidence. We can see he is not shooting the ball well at all, and he fumbled the ball a number of times. He was always looking back at Archie when he made a mistake and was attempting to defend himself. It was not pretty, and I felt bad for him. Archie continues to let him try to play through this difficult stretch. We really need his outside shooting and he needs to get his mind right. He looked very distraught at the time out in the huddle during the Iowa game with a towel over his head, and John Crosby had his arm around him the whole time.

Kyle Davis continues to impress with his leadership and play. He is a catalyst and we are a noticeably better team when he is in the game. Kyle needs to be out on the floor a lot.

Some of our older players are not too happy to come out of the game. Something that Archie said could be an issue. You want to have these guys out on the floor, but you want to grow the younger players. It's not easy to find a balance.

Teams like Monmouth and Iowa are farther along in their team development than we are right now in my opinion. They know who is going to play, how long they will play, and the rotations are set. We are not. This is not a criticism of Archie and the staff. It seems like they are still trying to figure some things out.

There were way too many touch fouls in the game last night. I thought we had gained control of the game, and the barrage of fouls really changed things and allowed Monmouth to get back into the game. The referees were not very good in my opinion.

I was very impressed with King Rice. Very positive and a well- coached team. I didn't know anything about his coaching career, but I would be surprised if he did not draw a lot of interest from other schools.

This is one of the deepest and most talented teams we have had, but we have a core of younger players who are going to be inconsistent in the beginning of their careers.

And you wonder how good we can be if Mr. Pierre comes back.
